Man United 0-1 Wrexham AFC – How it all unfolded

It may have been pre-season, it may have been Helsinki, but a win is a win – the first of the pre-season period for Wrexham AFC.

Following the scoreless draw against Wisla Krakow, the Red Dragons put the Red Devils to the sword in the unfamiliar setting that was the Finnish capital.

Phil Parkinson’s side will be keen to continue the winning feeling when the US Tour kicks off against Leeds United in Tampa, FL on Saturday.

Momentum is important, but the biggest imperative is that the team is ready for the big Championship kick-off against Cardiff City on August 17.

What’s not to like about beating Man United?

Sam Smith secured the only goal of the game, converting from close range in the first half.

The Wrexham team were led out for the game by Matty James, who lined up in midfield alongside Lewis O’Brien.

Wing-backs Aaron James and George Thomason provided the width ahead of Zak Vyner, Dan Scarr, and Callum Doyle.

Arthur Okonkwo started between the posts.

Up front, Bailey Cadamarteri, Nathan Broadhead and Smith completed the starting XI.

Both sides changed their teams for the second-half, with only Aaron James retaining his place.

Danny Ward replaced Okonkwo, playing behind a back three of Dom Hyam, Conor Coady and Lewis Brunt.

Ryan Barnett and James occupied the wings, with Harry Ashfield and George Dobson in the engine room.

Davis Keillor-Dunn and Ollie Rathbone were tasked with supporting striker Kieffer Moore after the break.

As he did against Wisla, Alex Moore replaced James for the last 20 minutes.
