Wrexham received a mixed injury update, as Phil Parkinson hopes for a full recovery while managing his squad during the final stages of the Championship.
As Wrexham prepare to face Stoke City on Saturday, they are eager to secure three points after going winless in their last three matches. The Red Dragons have managed to gather only four points out of the last 15 available, causing the playoffs to slip further away from Parkinson’s team.
The Red Dragons suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Birmingham last week, leaving the newly promoted side four points behind the playoffs as Hull City hold onto sixth position.
So, with a top-six finish slipping from their grasp, supporters won’t be pleased to see some negative news.
Phil Parkinson shares Ben Sheaf and Zak Vyner injury updates
Ben Sheaf is still unavailable due to a knee injury sustained during the 5-3 victory over Ipswich Town in late February. At that time, Parkinson was concerned about a potential 10-week absence for the midfielder.
Signed from Coventry City in the summer for £6.5 million. Sheaf’s absence has been a blow for Parkinson, given his importance in the midfield.
“Ben is still not with us on the training pitch. He has had some training, but he’s had a minor setback,” Parkinson said of Sheaf in his pre-match press conference.
Meanwhile, January window signing Zak Vyner has been dealing with a groin issue, as he missed last week’s trip to St Andrew’s, which ended in a 2-0 defeat.
Despite suffering from a groin injury, there is positive news regarding Vyner. Parkinson stated: “Zak has a rescan on his groin scheduled for tomorrow, so he won’t be available for the weekend.
“He is feeling much better, but that will be too soon for him to return.”
Nathan Broadhead to be assessed ahead of Stoke City clash
Attacker Nathan Broadhead’s participation against Stoke City is uncertain, as he has been dealing with tightness in his hamstring since the match against Birmingham last week.
Parkinson explained, “Broady’s got a bit of a tight hamstring, so we’re just going to review that up to the weekend.”
Despite coming off the bench in the 63rd minute during the 2-0 defeat to Birmingham. He will be well rested ahead of Saturday and could be in contention to appear as Parkinson looks to call upon every available player during the final stretch of the season.
