- Wrexham vs Middlesbrough
- Hull City vs Norwich
- Derby County vs Sheffield United
Wrexham could secure a fourth consecutive promotion by defeating Middlesbrough on Saturday, thereby guaranteeing their spot in the playoffs.
All 24 teams in the league will play the final match of the season at the same time on Saturday.
Wrexham’s 3-1 defeat to Coventry City on Sunday means that the North Wales side, Hull City, and Derby County all have a chance to secure the final playoff spot on the last day of the season.
The Red Dragons currently hold the final playoff position on goal difference, as they are level on points with Hull City. Derby County is in 8th place, just one point behind the top six.
What do Wrexham need to finish sixth?
Phil Parkinson’s side will secure the playoffs for a chance of a fourth consecutive promotion if they beat Middlesbrough at the Stok on Saturday afternoon.
Hull City is currently level on points with Wrexham, but Wrexham has the advantage due to a better goal difference. To maintain their position, the Red Dragons will need to achieve a result equal to or better than the Tigers.
Hull are set to play against an in-form Norwich City, a team that has recently moved into the top half of the Championship standings.
However, if both sides win their games and Hull levels their goal difference, the deciding factor will come down to goals scored in the league.
The Red Dragons will be ideally looking for three points, as playoff rivals Derby County will be hoping the North Wales side drops points against Middlesbrough.
What does it mean for Derby and Hull?
Hull will secure the final playoff spot if they better Wrexham’s result against Middlesbrough. However, the North East side won’t be an easy game for Wrexham as a win against the newly promoted side will hopefully be enough for automatic promotion if results elsewhere go their way.
Sergej Jakirović’s side will also need to improve on or match Derby’s result against Sheffield United if they hope to claim the final playoff spot.
Derby can also go up with three points or even a draw. However, the Rams have the weakest grip on the final playoff spot, trailing Wrexham and Hull by one point.
Derby fans will be hopeful that points are dropped elsewhere, as a win against Sheffield United doesn’t guarantee a playoff spot, given the points deficit.
A victory against Sheffield United, along with Wrexham and Hull both losing their matches, will allow Derby to move into the top six.
Thanks to Derby’s superior goal difference over Hull and Wrexham, a draw against the Blades will also be enough for Derby to claim the final playoff spot, as long as Wrexham and Hull both lose on Saturday.
